Stage 7

I have added shading to the bamboo now, as well as a simple flat shadow for the bone. Using a simple flat shape with the opacity setting dropped down provides a different type of shadow that contrasts effectively with the stippling effect of the Dissolve Brush. For me, the power of an image is created or not by this balance of contrasts between textures, forms and colours.

Note the concentric circles in red on the record labels: I know at this stage that I want little accents of a very strong colour here to stand out from the greens, blues and pale yellows of this composition.

Note also the deep background of dark blue. I tried black, but find often that black as a background affects all the other colours by making them appear to the eye as cold and harsh. A very dark deep blue creates the effect I am after but is more polite to its companions!
